Summer Begins for the Broome County Parks
The Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial beginning of summer. However the summer season officially begins on Saturday for the Broome County Parks, Recreation and Youth Services Department.
The weather looks pretty good for the weekend and if you're looking for something local and free then check out our County Parks.
They are open with free admission from 8 a.m. to dusk every day through Labor Day, September 2nd. Swimming, picnicking and hiking are free at Greenwood, Dorchester and Nathaniel Cole Parks.
The beaches will reopen and boat rentals become available at Greenwood Park, Dorchester Park and Nathaniel Cole Park this weekend and open at 11 a.m. every day if the weather permits.
Overnight camping is available at Greenwood Park. For further information contact Broome County Parks, Recreation and Youth Services at (607) 778-2193.
There are many exciting events at these parks including a fairly new one that I look forward to every year. It's "Broome Bands Together" at Otsiningo Park, it's a free concert on seven Tuesday during the summer from 6 to 8 p.m. Bring a chair, buy some snacks and support our area.
Go here to see what Broome County and it's Parks have to offer and we'll see you at the beach and on Tuesday nights.
