A stunning view of the Susquehanna River valley has been restored as part of a project to develop a scenic overlook platform at Roundtop Picnic Area in Endicott.

In recent years, visitors to the small Broome County park had complained that growing trees had obscured the beautiful vista they had enjoyed for decades.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo secured state funding for the project. A significant section on the east side of Roundtop has been cleared and an overlook facility was constructed over the last few months.

State and county officials are planning to visit the park Tuesday afternoon to announce the opening of the new facility.

Another scenic overlook has been built a short distance to the west of the county-operated Grippen Park.

An improved boat launch also is being constructed at the park next to the Susquehanna River.
