Johnson City Overbrook Road Project Triggers Strict Parking, Traffic Rules
The Village of Johnson City has announced a major infrastructure project on Overbrook Road that will impact local traffic, street parking, and driveway access for nearly two months.
According to an official release from Josh Holland, Director of Public Services, and Mayor Christina Charuk, village-contracted crews are scheduled to begin work on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. The extensive project is expected to run through Friday, July 31, 2026.
Overbrook Road Water Main Construction Details
The primary focus of the upcoming project is the installation of a new water main on Overbrook Road. In addition to the water infrastructure upgrades, contracted crews will perform necessary concrete repairs and complete roadway resurfacing across the impacted construction zones.
Johnson City Road Closures and Traffic Delays
While the project is underway, Overbrook Road will remain open to local traffic only. However, area drivers should prepare for temporary road closures, active traffic control measures, and timely travel delays. Village officials noted that residents' access to their own driveways may be temporarily affected at various points throughout the construction process.
Nelson Road Traffic Impacts
The Department of Public Works has indicated that the infrastructure project will extend beyond Overbrook Road. Parts of nearby Nelson Road will also be affected by the construction activities and should be avoided by drivers looking to minimize delays.
Strict Parking Restrictions and Towing Policy
To ensure crews can work safely and efficiently, a strict parking ban will be enforced. All parked cars must be completely removed from active working locations by 6:00 AM on scheduled workdays.
Residents will be permitted to park their vehicles on the street overnight from the end of the workday until 6:00 a.m. the following morning. Village officials warned that any vehicles left on the roadway during active work hours will be towed immediately at the owner's expense.
