Binghamton Faces One of Its Biggest Weekends of the Year
This week, Binghamton transforms as graduation weekend brings thousands of families to town for Binghamton University’s Commencement. More than 4,800 students are expected to walk the stage between Thursday, May 14, and Saturday, May 16, with nearly 25,000 family and friends in attendance.
You’ll notice the energy everywhere: restaurants with longer waits, hotel parking lots overflowing, and traffic moving a little slower around Vestal. For local shops and restaurants, this is one of the busiest weekends of the year and a welcome boost. A new report highlights that Binghamton University contributed $1.69 billion to the region’s economy in 2025, up $200 million, or 13%, from the previous year.
What to Expect With Graduation Traffic
If you’re driving near campus, expect congestion, especially on the Vestal Parkway between ceremonies. University Police and Parking Services, along with state and local law enforcement, will be out in force to direct traffic and help things flow. However, giving yourself extra time is a smart move.
Parking Options for Graduation Weekend
To help with congestion, the parking garage will be open free of charge from Friday through Sunday. Officials hope the extra parking option will help reduce some of the usual graduation weekend traffic on the Vestal Parkway.
How to Watch Commencement Remotely
For relatives and friends who cannot be in Binghamton this weekend, the ceremonies will still be easy to watch from home.

All Commencement ceremonies will stream live on the Binghamton University YouTube channel, so families everywhere can join in the excitement, no matter where they are watching.
