The second full week of November is "Pursuit Of Happiness Week" and with everything that is going on around us including out-of-control inflation, vaccination mandates, and an Infrastructure Bill that will give us more taxes, it's harder than ever to find happiness around us.

It's even in the United States Declaration of Independence so let's find it. My first suggestion is to turn off the news and tune out the noise but what next? Here are some things to try.

How To Pursue Happiness

Spread kindness. I find that when I  do something good for someone else, it changes my whole outlook. I also find that I get a special joy when I do something for someone that has no way of paying me back...and I don't want them to.

In the past, I got several $5 Dunkin' cards and would hand them out when I thought that it would help make someone's day a little better. If someone did something thoughtful, I would say "thank you" and hand them a card. Seeing their smile would make my day.

Count your blessings. It is so easy to get caught up in the things that just don't matter. I'm willing to bet that you can find five things before the end of the day. Start small if you have to and work from there. Here is where I find my blessings all the time.

Take time to talk. It amazes me that we use our phone for everything besides to make a call. I'm guilty of this and I know I need to do better. There is something comforting when you talk to a loved one on the phone. I can't tell you how many times that I've texted someone and they totally misunderstood me and vice-versa.

There is something about hearing their voice that makes all the difference, which leads me to the next way to pursue happiness.

Have a good laugh every day. A chuckle, smile, or groan can change the mood for you and everyone around you. It can relieve tension or reduce stress. Life is definitely too small to sweat the petty stuff, so let it go and laugh.

Don't sweat the petty stuff, pet the sweaty stuff. Did that make you laugh...or groan? If you don't know where to go for a laugh, I suggest the morning show. I find that some people are happy when the show is on and other people are happy when it's over.

LOOK: Things from the year you were born that don't exist anymore

The iconic (and at times silly) toys, technologies, and electronics have been usurped since their grand entrance, either by advances in technology or breakthroughs in common sense. See how many things on this list trigger childhood memories—and which ones were here and gone so fast you missed them entirely.
