On Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at approximately 5:56 p.m., the Johnson City Police Department reported they received a call about a vehicle fire on St. Charles Street. Johnson City patrol officers rushed to the scene where they witnessed an SUV engulfed in flames.

Investigating the Fire

Upon arrival, officers initiated an investigation, which soon revealed that the fire was deliberately set. The suspect, identified as Nathan Miller, along with his vehicle description and potential address, was immediately relayed to neighboring police agencies in a bid to track him down. The Johnson City Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Johnson City Fire Department, as they responded to extinguish the fire.

The Search Intensifies

Broome Sheriff's deputies located Miller's vehicle at the Knight's Inn on East Main St in Endwell shortly after receiving the intel. Johnson City Police Department detectives quickly responded to the Knight's Inn, successfully pinpointing Miller's location within his room.

Apprehending the Suspect

Without incident, Nathan Miller was taken into custody by law enforcement officers and transported to the Johnson City Police Department for further questioning and processing.

Charges Laid Out

After Nathan Miller was taken in for questioning, he was charged with several crimes. The most significant charge was third-degree arson, which is considered a class C felony. Moreover, Miller had existing warrants from the Broome County Sheriff's Office for possessing stolen property, another felony, and from the New York State Police for petty theft, a misdemeanor.

Legal Proceedings

Miller was brought to the Broome County central arraignment and then let go.
