Corning Named One Of The Best Small Towns In The Northeast By USA Today
My family has visited Corning so many times over the years, and USA Today has confirmed what we've known all along. The Southern Tier gem landed at number four on USA Today's 10Best list of Small Towns in the Northeast, plus fifth on their Small Town Cultural Scene ranking. For me, it's not a surprise. It's just nice to see it in writing.
Corning, New York USA Today 10Best Small Town Ranking Explained
The rankings come from USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards, where a panel of travel experts nominates towns across the country, and readers vote to decide the winners. Corning made the cut in two separate categories this spring, landing fourth for Small Towns in the Northeast and fifth for Small Town Cultural Scene.
Known as "America's Crystal City," Corning built its reputation on glass innovation, and it still shows. The Gaffer District downtown is full of museums, galleries, historic buildings, and shops, with the Centerway Bridge giving the whole area a postcard feel. Every Memorial Day weekend, GlassFest takes over downtown with a celebration of glass and fine arts that pulls in visitors from well outside the Southern Tier.
Corning Museum Of Glass Named World's Largest Glass Collection
We've made the trip to the Corning Museum of Glass more times than I can count at this point. It's become one of our go-to spots, the kind of place we build a whole day trip around instead of just stopping in for an hour.
My son is completely obsessed with it. Every visit, he's glued to the glassblowing demonstrations, watching molten glass get shaped into something completely different right in front of him. He could stand there all afternoon if we let him. The museum holds the world's largest collection of glass, with more than 50,000 objects spanning 3,500 years of history, and somehow he finds something new to get excited about every single time we go.
