It's the 55th Hibernian St. Patrick's Day Parade and it's happening this Saturday, March 4th. As always, the celebration begins with Mass at St. Mary's of the Assumption Church, 192-194 Court Street in Binghamton at 11:30 a.m.

This is the parade that goes backwards...at least that's what I tell people so they know where to line up. The other parades begin on Main Street between the Binghamton High School and the Belmar Pub and heads toward downtown Binghamton and end at the little circle on Court Street.

Binghamton St. Patrick's Day Parade Route

Before the actual parade begins, there is the Belmar Parade Day Mile that starts at 12:40 p.m. It begins at the Broome County Public Library and follows the parade route. and finishes in front of the Belmar Pub.

The Binghamton St. Patrick's Day parade begins at Mirabito Stadium (where the Binghamton Rumble Ponies play), 211 Henry Street. It'll take a left at Amici Restaurant and a right onto Court Street. It'll proceed to Post 80 American Legion (where the reviewing stand is located) and end on Main Street and  Arthur St.

At 1:15 p.m., the CHOW  truck will go down the parade route to collect non-perishable food and monetary donations. The actual parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will once again be televised live near the reviewing stand. This year's theme is "Alive with Irish Pride."

Things To Know Before You Go To The St. Patrick's Day Parade

The weather looks like your typical March day with clouds, snow and rain showers possible with temperatures in the upper 30's. Dress warm and bring an umbrella. Also this year, they are stressing that there'll be a large police presence and strict enforcement of open container laws. Don't let your open container rain on your parade and good time.

Biggest Question About The Hibernian St. Patrick's Day Parade

The biggest question that I get asked about the parade is: Why is it two weeks before the actual St. Patrick's Day. I'm told it's because that's when we can get the Mummers in town. Although I'm not positive that they were here last year.

I've also been asked why we can't get the Mummers the week before? That's because they attend the St. Patrick's Day parade in Scranton Pa. That parade is considered one of the largest Saint Patrick's Day parades in the USA.

See you Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Binghamton St. Patrick's Day parade. Even Boris the Skelton is getting into the (Irish) spirit of the day.
