Chicken Sold at Binghamton Area Aldi Stores Part of National Recall
I'd love to tell you that I'm the kind of mom who cooks from scratch every night, but I'm not that mom. There are some nights that life is far too hectic to prepare a home cooked meal from scratch so I turn to the next best thing- food that's mostly already been prepared.
I can't even put into words the fear that struck me when I realized that my son and I had recently eaten some chicken that was part of a nationwide recall. Thankfully for us, we didn't experience any health issues after eating the chicken but the same can't be said for nearly three dozen others, all of who have been infected with salmonella which has prompted a big recall.
The product being recalled is a variety of raw, frozen, breaded chicken products. These products were sold by many national grocery stores including Aldi stores in the Southern Tier. While no one who consumed the product has died, 11 of the patients became sick enough that they required hospitalization.
The products sold by Aldi stores that are part of the recall include Kirkwood Raw Stuffed Chicken, Broccoli & Cheese (lot code BR 1055; best if used by Feb 24, 2023), and Kirkwood Raw Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu (lot code BR 1056; best if used by Feb 25, 2023). You can see a complete list of products that are part of the recall here.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service says that Serenade Foods voluntarily recalled its product. In a press release, Aldi also announced it was voluntarily pulling the frozen chicken products from its shelves.
If you have any questions about the recall, you should contact Serenade Foods by calling 866- 873-7589.
