Important Recall for New York Parents: 180,000 Car Seats at Risk of Choking Hazard
Parents in New York, if you have a Safety 1st Grow and Go Sprint car seat, it's time to check for an important recall affecting over 180,000 seats.
Dorel Juvenile Group, the manufacturer, has announced a voluntary recall due to a possible choking hazard caused by unsecured foam in the headrest.
What’s Happening with the Recall?
More than 180,000 Safety 1st Grow and Go Sprint child seats are impacted by this recall, which covers models produced between February 28, 2023, and December 31, 2023. The issue lies with the foam in the headrests of these seats, which may not be securely attached. This could lead to foam pieces coming loose, posing a choking risk to young children. Although the foam is non-toxic, loose pieces could still be a danger.
While no injuries have been reported, and no medical treatment has been required, Dorel has acted quickly to address the situation. Their top priority is the safety of families, and they are offering free replacement headrest pads to ensure the problem is resolved.
How Can You Tell if Your Seat Is Affected?
If you own one of the affected car seats, you’ll need to identify whether yours is part of the recall. The impacted model numbers are:
- CC321GYU
- CC321GYUD
- CC321GYY
- CC321GYYD
- CC321HAO
- CC321HAR
These seats were sold between February 2023 and December 2023. To find out if your seat is part of the recall, locate the model number and manufacturing date on the white label attached to the side of the car seat.
What Should You Do if You Have a Recalled Car Seat?
Dorel advises parents not to return the recalled car seats to the store. Instead, the company is providing a free replacement headrest pad assembly kit that includes a new, secure headrest pad. The replacement kit will eliminate the risk of foam pieces coming loose and causing a choking hazard.

How to Stay Safe
