Two year old Noah of Hillcrest New York, should be doing 2 year old toddler type things but instead he has an unimaginable battle in front of him. Noah was born with a rare kidney disease called Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS.)  It is a rare kidney disease that causes scar tissue to develop in the kidney's filtering units.

This damage allows protein to leak into the urine, affecting the kidney's filtration function. FSGS can affect both children and adults, and is slightly more common in men and African Americans. There are two main types of FSGS: Primary FSGS has no identifiable cause.

Noah’s gene mutation is coenzyme q10 deficiency. That’s a lot of words most of us don’t understand but the bottom line is, little Noah is now in stage 4 kidney failure and will need a kidney transplant by the end of this year or early next year.

He requires nightly dialysis that can last 14 hours and needs countless medications. Noah cannot tolerate any food or liquids without vomiting so he is fed with a feeding tube.

Toddler of the Year Contest

Noah’s mom Kristen has entered him into a Toddler of the Year contest. If Noah wins, the family will receive $25,000 which will help relieve some of the financial stress and burden of Noah’s medical condition. You can see Noah’s story here.

Something like this is every parent’s worse nightmare. When my daughter Tara was younger than Noah, she was hospitalized for several days with a severe staph infection. I didn’t realize the gravity of it until later and was told how close we were to losing her, I had no idea how serious it was.

A couple of years ago, my older daughter Riley was riding a bike and was struck and run over by a pick up truck. By the grace of God, both my girls survived but it’s frightening to think about what could have been.

Our community always steps up for great causes like this and this case won’t be any different. So let’s rally around Noah and his family and make him the Toddler of the Year!
