Binghamton Police Crack Down on Speeding Near Parks in Summer Safety Push

Mayor Jared M. Kraham announced Thursday that the Binghamton Police Department has increased traffic patrols for the summer, with particular attention to reducing speeding near city parks.

Binghamton Prioritizes Park Safety and Traffic Enforcement

With school out for the summer, Mayor Kraham said, Binghamton's parks fill up with families and residents of all ages spending time outdoors. That's driving the decision to step up traffic enforcement in park zones, targeting speeding and other violations that put kids and pedestrians at risk.

Kraham also credited the city's walkability and its accessible parks in every neighborhood as part of what makes Binghamton a good place to live. He described the added traffic details as one piece of a larger push on neighborhood safety, alongside walking and bike patrols and other community policing efforts already underway.

Summer Traffic Patrols Target Residential, School, and Hospital Zones

Beyond park zones, the Binghamton Police Department will also concentrate enforcement efforts on high-traffic residential areas, school zones, and hospital zones.

Binghamton Police Deploy Speed Trailer to Discourage Speeding

As part of the initiative, the department will deploy a portable speed trailer that displays real-time speed readings to passing drivers, aimed at discouraging speeding in targeted areas.
