A sweep of the doubleheader on July 12 had the Rumble Ponies fired up and wanting more. Riding a five-game win streak, Binghamton was hoping to capture their sixth straight victory against the Portland Sea Dogs.

C.J. Chatham would set the tone early as he singled on a ground ball to right field to score Jarren Duran in the bottom of the first inning. More of the same in the bottom of the second as Brett Netzer, out on a sacrifice fly to right field, would bring in Austin Rei. The Sea Dogs were able to score in each of the first two innings, putting the Rumble Ponies in an early 2-0 hole.

Binghamton was able to respond in the top of the third as David Thompson reaches on a fielding error by Portland third baseman Bobby Dalbec. This would result in Quinn Brodey crossing home plate to cut the lead in half.

Portland immediately returned the favor as a double to right field off the bat of Luke Tendler would put Dalbec through in the bottom half of the third inning. The scoring continued as Joey Curletta scored thanks to a passed ball from Rumble Ponies catcher Patrick Mazeika. The inning would end with Netzer hitting an RBI single to right field, scoring Tendler and putting the Sea Dogs on top 5-1.

Fast-forward to the bottom of the eighth inning where the onslaught of scoring would continue for Portland. Chatham doubled on a ground ball to left field, sending Netzer and Jeremy Rivera home. After eight innings of play, the Sea Dogs were leading 7-1.

At the top of the ninth inning, it seemed like there was a glimmer of hope for the Ponies. Jason Krizan homered a fly ball to right field, scoring Braxton Lee, making it a 7-3 ballgame. Unfortunately, that was the full extent of Binghamton's comeback as they would fall to Portland by the final score of 7-3.

The Rumble Ponies have their five-game win streak snapped and have the record fall to 46-43 overall. The final game of this series will be played on July 14 at Hadlock Field with a start time of 1:00 P.M.
