Otsiningo Park Paving Job Using "In-Place Recycling" Process

A special process allowing existing pavement material to be reused is being utilized for a resurfacing project at Broome County's Otsiningo Park.

Suit-Kote Corporation of Cortland is the contractor for the paving work in the town of Dickinson.

Suit-Kote representative Chris Martinichio said the material that's already part of the roadway is taken up by a milling machine.

The in-place recycling process uses separate independent machines that work together forming a "train." The system mixes some new stone with the old asphalt that is then applied to the roadway surface using a standard paving machine.

About 1.2 miles of roadway and parking areas are being paved at Otsiningo Park this week. The resurfacing project is being done this week. Operations were delayed because of poor weather conditions on Monday. The work now is expected to be completed on Thursday.

The main park is to reopen on Friday. The north trail remains open while the repaving work is underway. Visitors can access the trail by using the north park entrance on Howell Drive off Front Street in the town of Chenango.
