According to a recent report by the National Safety Council (NSC), New York State is one of the safest states in the country for workers. To come to this conclusion, the NSC analyzed workplace safety data from all 50 states and ranked them based on a variety of factors, including workplace injury rates, worker fatalities, and safety regulations.

In the NSC report, New York State ranked 4th overall with a workplace safety score of 70.8 out of 100. The state performed particularly well in the areas of workplace safety regulations and enforcement, with a score of 79.3 out of 100.

This matters because it means that New Yorkers can feel confident that their employers are taking steps to ensure their safety on the job. The state has implemented a number of workplace safety regulations and programs over the years, including the New York State Department of Labor's Division of Safety and Health, which provides training and resources to employers to help them create safe work environments.

However, this isn’t to say that workplace injuries and fatalities never occur. In 2019, there were 236 fatal work injuries in New York, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics so there's still work to be done to make sure that every worker in New York is protected on the job.
