New York City Ranks Among Most Tourist-Heavy Places in the U.S.
If you have ever walked through New York City and felt like you were surrounded by visitors, you’re not wrong. I know that I've felt like that for sure. A new study from DiscoverCars.com shows New York City is one of the most tourist-heavy destinations in the country, ranking #2, just behind Orlando.
The Numbers Behind the Crowds
The study compared how many international tourists visit cities compared to the number of people who live there. In the Big Apple, almost 16.5 million visitors came through last year. With a local population of around 8.5 million, that works out to around 191 tourists for every 100 residents. That’s a huge number, and it helps explain why the city always feels busy, no matter the time of year.
What Keeps People Coming Back
New York City is a bucket-list destination for many people. From the Statue of Liberty, Madison Square Garden, and Times Square, there’s something for everyone. Even with crowds, people keep coming because the culture, and history are hard to find anywhere else.
Getting Around Isn’t Cheap
The study also looked at rental car prices, and not surprisingly, New York stood out there too. Renting a car for a week in the city can cost around $313, which is much higher than places like Orlando.

What It Means for Travelers
For some, the crowds are part of the experience. For others (like me), its a reason to find other places to explore. Either way, one thing is clear. New York is one of the most visited places in the entire country.
