A Rare Blood Moon Eclipse Is Coming to New York
Mark your calendar, New Yorkers: on the night of Sunday, September 7th the night sky will put on a show you do not want to miss. A total lunar eclipse, often called a Blood Moon, will be visible from our own backyards.
How Long It Lasts
This is not just any eclipse. This will last more than 80 minutes, making it one of the longest lunar eclipses of the decade. That means lots of time to step outside and enjoy the view.
What You’ll See
During the eclipse, the Moon will not disappear. It will glow with a deep red or orange color, giving it the nickname “Blood Moon.” And the best part? You do not need a telescope or special glasses. Just look up and enjoy the night sky.
Why the Moon Turns Red
The Earth will move directly between the Sun and the Moon. As sunlight passes through the atmosphere, the blue light scatters, while the red and orange tones bend around and land on the Moon. That is what gives it that unforgettable crimson glow.

A Moment to Remember
This Blood Moon will be visible not only in New York, but across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Let's face it though, there is something special about seeing it right here in our own backyard. It is a chance to stop, look up, and be reminded of the beauty of the universe.
Do Not Miss It
When my daughter, Tara was young, when we would get out of the car at night, she would take a moment to look up at the sky. She would say "Daddy, look up in the sky", I will certainly do that this Sunday, September 7th. I hope you will also take the opportunity to observe what God has given us in the heavens.
