Survey Shows What New York Women Look for Online Before a First Date

Many people look someone up online before going on a first date. A new survey shows that single women in New York pay attention to more than just social media. They also notice signs that a man is successful, trusted, or well known. The survey asked over 3,000 single women what online "green flags" they like most.

The Top Three Green Flags

The number one answer was a man who has spoken at a conference. Women said it can show confidence and success. The second most popular answer was seeing a man's name appear in Google's search suggestions. The third was finding that someone important had shared one of his posts online.

Looking Someone Up Is Common

They found that searching for someone online before a date is now common. More than two out of three women said they usually search for a man before meeting him through a dating app. Many women said it helps them learn more about the person and makes them feel safer.

What Women Don't Like

The survey also found that a bad online reputation can stop a date before it even starts. More than 4 out of 10 women said they have canceled a date because of something they found online. Women also said they want people to sound real online. More than half said they would be turned off if a man's website or social media posts looked like they were written by AI instead of by him.
