New York Is One of America’s Most Snack-Obsessed States
Snacking is a common part of life. Research shared by the National Library of Medicine found that 95% of people have at least one snack or beverage each day. A new study looked at online searches, convenience stores, and food spending to find out about New York’s snacking habits.
New York Ranks High for Snacking
New York earned a Snack Affinity score of 77.41 out of 100. That score was based on the number of convenience stores in the state, snack searches, and money spent on food away from home. The study put New York third in the country for its interest in snacks.
Popcorn Is New York’s Favorite Snack
Popcorn was the most searched for snack in New York. Cupcakes came in second, followed by chocolate chip cookies. The rest of the state’s top 10 were rice cakes, walnuts, lollipops, pretzels, peanuts, brownies, and almonds.
New Yorkers Prefer Sweet Treats
Sweet snacks are more popular than salty ones in New York. The study showed 375,230 searches for sweet snacks, compared with 149,960 searches for salty choices. That may explain why cupcakes, cookies, lollipops, and brownies all made the top 10.
Thousands of Stores Offer Quick Snacks
New York has 7,561 convenience stores including the Snack City in Endicott. That gives residents plenty of places to pick up a drink, candy bar, bag of popcorn, or another snack running errands.

Residents Spend Thousands on Food Away From Home
New York residents spend over $4,925 each year on food eaten away from home. That amount includes more than snacks, but it shows that New Yorkers spend plenty of money on quick meals, restaurant food, and grab and go choices.
