Smile And The World Will Wonder What You’re Up Too!
Monday, October 21st is "Count Your Buttons" Day. No one knows for sure what the creators of this holiday were trying to accomplish but it is a little fun diversion to take our minds off all the madness that is going on around us.
In the very early days, buttons were used mostly for decoration and as jewelry. The Europeans changed all that in the 1200s when they used buttons to attach two pieces of fabric together.
Political Buttons
In the late 1700s, buttons were used to show loyalty to a political party. In fact, the first political button in the United States was issued at the inauguration of President George Washington in 1789.
The use of buttons with candidates' faces, logos, or slogans is still worn today during the election season. I have two favorite buttons and neither of them has anything to do with politics and I'm more than happy about that.
The button that I proudly wear and show off all year long is of my daughter, Tara. She's a senior now and I can't believe how fast the time has flown by. I like to wear this particular button because that way she will always be close to my heart.
Christmas Button
The other button that I like to wear is "It's okay to say 'Merry Christmas' to me." Traci has announced that she is putting up her Christmas decorations over the Halloween weekend so that's when I'm going to start wearing that button.
One time as a joke, I wore that button on a humid August afternoon and I was pleasantly surprised at how many people said "Merry Christmas" to me. I asked if that helped them feel any cooler, and they said it did. I leave you with these buttons that left a smile on my face.
Funny Buttons
Errors have been made. Others will be blamed.
Better living through denial.
I thought I wanted a career, turns out I just wanted a paycheck.
If that was the look you were going for, then you missed it
The button that I need to give to Traci to wear for me. Does your train of thought have a caboose? My answer to that is " It has a caboose but I can never keep the train on the tracks."
