National Sushi Day was Thursday, June 18th, and a new study looked at what kinds of sushi people are searching for the most across the country. While many people think of California rolls when they think of sushi, New Yorkers appear to have a different favorite.

New York's Top Sushi Roll

Ovid Life looked at five years of Google Trends search data to find the most popular sushi roll in every state. The results showed that New York's most searched sushi roll is the mango sushi roll.

That may come as a surprise to some people, especially since New York is home to thousands of sushi restaurants serving everything from traditional Japanese dishes to modern creations.

What Is a Mango Sushi Roll?

A mango sushi roll combines fresh mango with sushi ingredients like rice, seaweed, vegetables, seafood, or even cream cheese. The sweet flavor of mango adds a tropical twist that many people enjoy.

Some versions include shrimp tempura, crab, or spicy tuna, while others are completely vegetarian. The combination of sweet fruit and savory ingredients has become increasingly popular in recent years, especially among people who enjoy trying new flavors.

Sushi Continues to Grow in Popularity

Sushi has come a long way from being considered a specialty food. You can find it almost everywhere in New York State. From grocery stores in Buffalo and Rochester to restaurants in Binghamton, Syracuse, Albany, and New York City, sushi has become a common lunch and dinner choice for many people.

Part of its popularity comes from the huge variety available. Whether you like cooked seafood, raw fish, vegetables, crunchy tempura, or sweet ingredients like mango, there is usually a sushi roll to match your taste.

New Yorkers Love Trying Something Different

While classic sushi rolls still have plenty of fans, New York's top search result suggests many people are looking beyond the basics. Instead of sticking with traditional favorites, New Yorkers seem interested in rolls that offer something a little different.
