Tioga County Seminar Will Focus On Protecting Children From Grooming
A free community seminar in Owego will soon help Southern Tier residents learn how to recognize the warning signs of child grooming and abuse. The event is being hosted by the Tioga County Boys & Girls Club and will take place on Wednesday, June 24th
Seminar Will Cover Grooming Warning Signs
The seminar is titled “Fostering a Safe Community: The Stages of Grooming, and the Profiles of Targets and Predators.” The presentation will be led by children’s advocate, pastor, and author Amber Gregory.
Organizers say the seminar will explain how grooming behaviors develop, what warning signs people should watch for, and how communities can help protect children and teens. The presentation will also include a question and answer session.
Event Organizers Say No Community Is Immune
Jill Teeter, CEO of the Tioga County Boys & Girls Club, said community interest in the topic has been strong. Teeter said the organization plans to offer another public presentation in August because of growing demand. She also said future sessions may focus on topics including social media grooming and human trafficking awareness.
Training Encouraged For Anyone Working With Children
Organizers strongly encourage attendance from people who work closely with children and families. That includes school counselors, administrators, youth organization leaders, faith leaders, volunteers, law enforcement personnel, and emergency responders. Lunch will be provided during the event.

How To Attend The Free Seminar
The seminar will take place from noon until 1:30 p.m. at The Neighborhood Depot, 146 Central Ave, Owego. Because seating is limited, organizers say advance reservations are required. Community members can RSVP by emailing admin@tiogabgca.org.
