Back in November, Eric Church surprised everyone when he released a new album at the CMA Awards.  Eric revealed a lot of the details behind that project as he co-hosts Country Countdown USA with Lon Helton, Sunday night (7/31) 7-10pm on 98.1 The Hawk.

It's one thing to rush a record out, but why the surprise? "We did the record by ourselves, kept it from the label the entire time, even bought a record pressing plant in Germany to do it secretly.  I wanted it to go to the fans first, and that's not how it works in this industry.  I wanted it to go to the fans first."  Pretty cool Eric!

The fact that the record came out sooner than expected means that Eric is having a restful summer: "I've played a lot of golf, and did a lot of fly fishing." We may not have a lot of fly fishing in New York State Eric, but we do love our fishing in Upstate and invite you to come fish with the Hawk anytime!

Eric shares a lot of song writing stories on the Hawk Sunday night.  You may or may not know he is good friends with Keith Urban. Eric tells two great stories about Keith this week.  In fact one of them began with Keith's last visit to the Countdown.

Eric also has great stories this week about Brothers Osborne, Thomas Rhett, Jon Pardi, and Big & Rich.
