Every year about this time I get anxious to get outside and plant my veggie garden.  This year I really caught the planting bug early when we had that 75-80 degree warm snap last month so I went out and planted a bunch of cold-friendly veggies after everyone and their brother warned me that that would not be a good idea.  And wouldn't you know it, they were right, we had some snow and now I'm back to square one.

So here we are in late April and the forecast is looking pretty good for the next couple of weeks.  Checking with my farming friends, they all indicate that it's safe to plant at least some of my seeds again.

Waking up early this morning, I spent an hour or so getting my garden plans together.  Today sounds like a good day to plant so here is what I'll be sowing in to my garden:  peas, lettuce, kale, carrots, kohlrabi, and beets.  I started my herbs inside last weekend under the grow lights and have sprouts already on my basil, parsley, sage and cilantro.

Definitely hold off on your warm weather veggies like tomatoes, melons and peppers.  I would say in about a week it would be safe to plant your potatoes, chives and corn.

Spring is an exciting time for the gardener.  Mother's Day weekend, catch me at one of my favorite greenhouses and we can talk plants together.  Listen for the announcement on the air or check the Hawk Events Calendar now for that location.
