Tioga County Recruiting Poll Workers
Elections commissioners in Tioga County are encouraging registered voters to consider becoming poll workers for the upcoming primary and general elections.
The call for election inspectors is timed to coincide with National Poll Worker Recruitment Day on Tuesday.
According to Tioga County Board of Elections, the recruitment effort helps to address a shortage of poll workers while inspiring greater civic engagement.
Under New York state election law, poll workers may represent either the Democratic or Republican party. If an election inspector is not affiliated with any party or is affiliated with a different party, the inspector must choose to represent one of the major parties on Election Day.
Election inspectors are paid while working at a polling place. They also are paid to attend a mandatory annual training session.
People interested in more information about becoming a poll worker may contact the Tioga County Board of Elections at (607) 687-8261 to be placed on a list for a spring or summer training class.
