Broome and Tioga Community Groups Can Apply for Tobacco Free Grants

Community groups in Broome and Tioga counties have a chance to receive funding to help make their neighborhoods healthier. The Tobacco Free Broome and Tioga Program is offering a total of $35,000 in grant money through the New York State Department of Health. The money will support local projects that help reduce the health problems caused by commercial tobacco products.

Grants Will Support Local Communities

The funding is meant for organizations that work with people who are more likely to be affected by tobacco use and tobacco related diseases. These groups will work with the Tobacco Free Broome and Tioga Program to help improve health in their communities. The goal is to support projects that make long lasting changes and create healthier places to live.

Projects Can Focus on Several Health Goals

Organizations can apply for funding to support projects that encourage smoke free apartment buildings, reduce tobacco waste in the environment, improve the places where tobacco products are sold, or create more tobacco free outdoor spaces.

The money can also be used for community meetings, educational programs, outreach, and partnerships with local leaders and organizations to help improve public health.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

Grassroots organizations that serve Broome and Tioga counties are encouraged to apply if they work with communities that have been affected the most by commercial tobacco use and tobacco related health problems.

The projects will begin on August 17th, 2026, and continue through April 30th, 2027. Some organizations may also be able to receive additional funding after the first project period ends.

Applications Are Due in August

Organizations interested in applying must submit their applications by August 10th, 2026. The grants are designed to help local groups lead projects that create healthier communities across Broome and Tioga counties.
