Dickinson Passport Fair Gives Broome County Residents an After-Hours Option
If your work schedule has made it tough to get to the downtown Binghamton office during regular business hours, Broome County is giving you another window to get it done. Broome County Clerk Aaron Martin and Town of Dickinson Supervisor Michael Marinaccio announced a passport fair at Dickinson Town Hall, 531 Old Front Street in Binghamton, on Wednesday, September 16, from 5 to 7 p.m.
"We're pleased to partner with the Town of Dickinson and Town Supervisor Mike Marinaccio to provide passport services to residents of Broome County," Martin said. "Some customers may not be able to travel to our downtown Binghamton office during normal business hours. So, our off-site passport fairs gives them this opportunity."
Marinaccio echoed that sentiment, saying he hopes residents take advantage of the service. I don't know about you, but I've had to rearrange my whole afternoon before just to make a government office's hours work, so an evening option like this feels like a small but real convenience for working families.
Dickinson Passport Fair Requires an Appointment To Participate
This isn't a walk-in event. Appointments are required, and residents can sign up here. The fair will take place in the Town Hall Board Room, and customers can use the building's main entrance.
Application forms will be available on site, and photos can be taken there as well. Anyone who wants to get a head start can download and print the application in advance from the U.S. State Department's travel site.
What To Bring To the Broome County Passport Fair
The Clerk's Office is asking applicants to come prepared, since missing documentation could mean a wasted trip. You'll need:
- An original or certified copy of your birth certificate listing both parents' names with a raised seal, along with a front and back photocopy, or a naturalization certificate.
- A photo ID with a front and back photocopy, or a current non-expired government ID.
- Two checks to cover the fees, since cash and credit cards are not accepted at passport fairs.
Applicants should also know their parents' places and dates of birth, since that information is required to complete the application accurately. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent. The Clerk's Office also recommends wearing dark colored clothing for the passport photo. Expedited applications cannot be processed at these fairs.
Broome County Passport Fair Fees and Costs
Passport book fees are $130 for adults and $100 for children under 16. Passport cards, which can only be used for land and cruise travel, cost $30 for adults and $15 for children under 16. Every application also carries a $35 processing fee and a $10 fee for the passport photo.
