SUNY Broome Emergency Fund Set to Help B.C.C. Students Stay in School

Some students with dreams of attending SUNY Broome Community College are being helped along through over $100,000 in donations.

BCC says the money has been raised for the new Student Emergency fund created to help scholars facing financial challenges to meet essential non-tuition-related expenses.

According to a news release from the college on Upper Front Street, 87% of SUNY Broome students have documented financial need and community college students are often vulnerable to poverty and food and housing insecurity.

The Broome Community College Foundation had set a goal of raising $50,000 for the new program and an anonymous donor contributed a matching gift to the fund.

The fund, that was created earlier this year, will provide a one-time grant of up to $500 to help students pay for things like food, utilities, medicine, child care and transportation so they are able to stay in school.
