My husband and son have birthdays within a week of mine and we always celebrate by making memories on a super fun birthdays weekend adventure.

We've been to Montpelier, Vermont, to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, even to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Every year, we travel someplace new and play tourist, exploring all the secret places, swimming in the hotel pool, and ordering room service.

This year, we won't be able to do that. This year our birthdays weekend getaway is not going to look like it has in years past. While we will be escaping for some family time at a hotel where we can go swimming, we won't be exploring new streets, window shopping, and visiting farmers' markets.

When my husband and I sat down with our son and explained that things were going to be a little different this year and asked what he would like to do with the money we'd saved up since last year for our trip this year, John didn't hesitate. He jumped up and threw his arms in the air saying we should give it to the kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I kid you not. My husband and I looked at our son with our jaws open and asked him to repeat what he'd just said.

Although we are already Partners in Hope, my family will be sending St. Jude a check written for the amount of money we won't be spending on our long weekend trip this year. My son's only request was that one day we can take him to St. Jude so he "can meet the awesome kids." You got it, kid. Just as soon as it's safe, we will gladly take you to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Friends and family often ask us what we'd like for our birthdays. This year, our greatest wish would be for them, and you, to make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and their incredible mission to end childhood cancer. If you do, please let us know!

For just $19 a month, you can help St. Jude save the life of a child.  Help us help St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Make a donation by calling 800-372-4999, text "HAWK" to 626262, or donate at this link:
