Reading Fights Off Ponies
On July 16, the Rumble Ponies and Fightin Phils were scheduled to play the second game of the series at NYSEG Stadium. However, mother nature had other plans and the game was washed out. The matchup on July 17, would become a doubleheader, starting at the bottom of the fourth inning from the previous night.
Reading lead the game 4-0 last night before the rain set in. A couple of RBI singles from Alec Bohm and Mickey Moniak in the first few innings of the game helped set the tone. A pair of homers from Josh Stephen and Austin Bossart in the top of the fourth would close out the scoring for the Fightin Phils.
Rumble Ponies came to play on the second day as David Thompson hit an RBL double to score Ali Sanchez. This was just the start of the scoring as Jason Krizan brings home Barrett Barnes on an RBI single. Lastly, a line-drive single from Gavin Cecchini allows Thompson to cross home plate and brought Binghamton within one. The Ponies and their hard work would be quickly neutralized the very next inning as Bossart hit a three-run blast. Moniak and Stephen score as a result and Reading would go up 7-3.
However, a homer from Barnes helped Binghamton chip into the lead, making it a 7-4 ballgame. Moving ahead to the bottom of the seventh, Krizan hit a double to center field to score both Barnes and Thompson to make it 7-6 after seven. Jose Gomez grounder to bring home Luke Williams put Reading on top 8-6.
The Rumble Ponies weren't able to mount a comeback, so they suffer a loss in the first game by a final score of 8-6. This was the second loss in a row to the Fightin Phils. Binghamton looked to turn things around in the second game.
The second game, unfortunately, wouldn't be played as mother nature once again decided to rain the game out. The makeup date for this game is still to be determined. The next game for the Rumble Ponies will be the start of their road trip to Akron. The game is scheduled for July 18 with a start time of 7:05 P.M.
