Brutal Arctic Air Will Blast Binghamton Just Before Christmas
Bundle up, Binghamton because we're in for an exceptionally cold Christmas this year.
Forecasters are issuing warnings of life-threatening cold for huge chunks of the United States, including the Southern Tier.
Meteorologists are predicting that temperatures in the Southern Tier will hoover around 50 degrees on Friday, December 23 before plummeting to a frigid ten degrees Friday night with highs only in the teens and low 20s from Saturday through Tuesday.
The arctic air mass is the result of the winter storm the Southern Tier experienced last week.
Zack Taylor, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service said, “We’re looking at much-below normal temperatures, potentially record-low temperatures leading up to the Christmas holiday."
Binghamton isn't the only town that will battle brutally cold temperatures. Places in the southern parts of the United States that don't normally experience such extreme cold fronts will be faced with just that.
The National Weather Service is predicting that on Thursday night, temperatures will plunge as low as 13 degrees in Jackson, Mississippi; and around 5 degrees in Nashville, Tennessee.
What about the potential winter storm that forecasters were eying last week for later this week? When it comes to weather, anything and everything can happen but at this point, it doesn't look like a major storm will happen after all just brutally cold weather.
