Binghamton Restaurant Takes Home The Hardware At The Buffalo Wing Festival
How did we miss this earlier this month? The National Buffalo Wing Festival took place over Labor Day weekend, September 3-4 at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park (where the Buffalo Bills roam) and it celebrated the Buffalo-style chicken wing.
The festival ends with the IFOCE sanctioned Buffalo Wing eating contest on Sunday and guess who didn't win...More on that later but for now lets start with our local winner.
The Old Union Hotel Wins Two Awards At The National Buffalo Wing Festival
When you ask people where they go when they want really good chicken wings, it's a really good bet The Old Union Hotel will be one of the most popular answers. They put there money where they mouth is when they brought some hardware home from the National Buffalo Wing Festival.
This Binghamton landmark bar added to their vast collection of National WingFest trophies by taking second place for best craft wings for their hot dill pickle. In the past, The Old Union Hotel hadn't placed in the traditional medium wing sauce category but they changed all that this year by finishing in third place.
You can see the winners from around the Empire State in all the different categories here. The big news might not be about the winners but about the one who didn't win...and it's a name that we all recognize.
Joey Chestnut Loses In Eating Contest
We all know the name, Joey Chesnutt. He's the 15x Hot Dog Eating Contest champ and a legendary competitive eater. He tried his hand again at the National Buffalo Wing Eating Competition.
For the second straight year, he lost to Miki Sudo. She ate an whopping 233 wings in 12 minutes. Chestnut came in second by downing 224 wings. Chesnutt took it in stride and at least he can say that he's the #1 male National Buffalo Wing Eating Competition.
We know that The Old Union Hotel is one of the best places in the Southern Tier for chicken wings and here are some other locations that you need to visit.
