A new study says both of New York’s NFL stadiums are among the spookiest in the league...and we aren't talking about the way they play.  Highmark Stadium in Buffalo and MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford both made the top five list of haunted football venues.

Highmark Stadium’s Haunted History

Highmark Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills, is second on the list. One big reason? There’s a real cemetery next to the Sheldon Family Cemetery by Gate 7. Some fans think that the Bills’ “curse” began after their four heartbreaking Super Bowl losses in the early 1990s. The stadium is also one of the oldest in the NFL, it's been around for more than 50 years, which adds to its eerie reputation.

A Stadium Full of Spirits

Even though the stadium sits close to a cemetery, New York actually has fewer haunted locations overall than many states with just under one per 1,000 square miles. It'll be interesting to see if it has the same feel when the new stadium is built.

MetLife Stadium’s Spooky Side

MetLife Stadium, shared by the New York Giants and Jets, is fourth on the haunted list. Legends say there are mob burial grounds hidden under the Meadowlands, which only adds to the creep factor. Combine that with long championship droughts of more than 14 years for the Giants and over 50 for the Jets and it’s easy to see why fans feel cursed.

The Most Haunted Stadium of All

According to the study by Pickswise, the most haunted stadium in the NFL is Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, home of the Saints. Still, with Highmark and MetLife both ranking in the top five, New Yorkers have their own ghost stories to tell when it comes to football season...especially when it comes to the Giants and Jets.
