Calling All New York Card Game Enthusiasts!
A few weeks ago, I went to a friend's house to watch some football. I was early so Scott...I mean my friend...asked if I wanted to play a game of cards before kick-off. I was all for it but what happened next really surprised me.
I thought we were going to play something like Blackjack, but nope, he wanted to play Go-Fish. I laughed and said "Who are you and what have you done with Scott but he was serious. He said he liked to play Go-Fish because it made him think of all of the times that he played the game with his kids when they were little.
It got me thinking about the card games that I played when my kids were young. You know how Facebook seems to read your mind, well that night I saw a story about the most popular card games from every state.
New York State's Favorite Card Games
So what are the most popular card games in New York? One popular card game in the Empire State is Crazy Eights. It's easy to learn and super fast-paced. Another game that's becoming popular in New York is also one of my favorites, it's Acey-Deucy (also known as Red Dog or In-Between).
It's a casino staple where players bet on whether the next card drawn falls between the values of the first two cards. It's simple and there isn't a lot of thinking involved... that's probably why I enjoy it.
When it comes to casino classics, New Yorkers can't get enough of Five-Card Draw. It's played with five cards dealt face-down and is full of strategy. That's probably why I don't play that game much.
Texas Hold'em is another big hit in New York and I don't go near that game. New Yorkers also like branded card games like Cards Against Humanity. Cards Against Humanity is a party game with fill-in-the-blank statements and outrageous answers.
