Ever wondered what people in New York are reading? Well, the people at Preply did some digging and uncovered some interesting reading habits in the Empire State.

According to their research, New Yorkers are really into books like "The Hunger Games," "Lessons in Chemistry," and "The Outsiders" - these were the most searched-for books in the past year. And guess what? "Lessons in Chemistry" takes the crown as the most popular book in New York State!

Talking about summer reads, "Crave," "The Godfather," "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Beloved," and "Demon Copperhead" were the hottest picks nationwide. But here in New York, "The Godfather" was the top choice for summer reading.

Seems like classic literature has a special place in the hearts of New Yorkers, as it's the most popular book genre in the state. They're into those timeless tales that never lose their appeal.

And get this - the average book length New Yorkers prefer is 413 pages. Looks like they enjoy a good, meaty read that they can really sink their teeth into.

But the fun doesn't stop there. Preply's research also found a potential link between reading habits and income. It turns out that regular readers, those devouring six or more books a year, tend to earn around 20% more moolah than non-readers. Who knew that your love for reading could be tied to your bank account?

It's like they say, "You are what you read," and in New York, their bookshelves tell a pretty revealing story about their interests and the tales that truly speak to them.

There are hundreds and thousands of books that have been written about Upstate New York over the last, say, 200 years. This gallery looks at a dozen of these books. They include monumental classics such as "Last of the Mohicans" by James Fenimore Cooper (published 200 years ago!), and Theodore Dresier's masterpiece "An American Tragedy," about a 1906 Upstate murder. The list also includes a few guidebooks, including my own Upstate "food guidebook." These more slight books, while not legendary classics, sure would fit beautifully in the glove box of your car for your next road warrior journey around Upstate New York!

Each book has a review, where applicable, plus some of my own comments. You will also find ordering information.

This is the first installment of an Upstate New York Book Library gallery which we will continue in the future with other titles.
