We get bombarded every day with bad news, depressing news, stories that make us mad, or sad. So it's nice when there is a feel-good story to tell, and we try our best to find them for you when we see or hear about something good.

And this is a local feel-good story. As you probably know, the Maine-Endwell High School football team won the Class B New York State Football Championship earlier this month by a score of 21 to 12 over Pleasantville High School.

Well, according to the Maine-Endwell Central School District Facebook, before the team traveled to Syracuse to play at the Carrier Dome for the championship game, a Maine-Endwell fourth-grade student, Austin Semko, had written a letter to one of the M-E football players, Donnie Hamer.

In the letter, Austin wished Donnie good luck at the game and mentioned how he liked Donnie's cleats. Well, Austin was surprised by Donnie by giving him the cleats signed, along with a newspaper article detailing the championship win. Check out the cleats and that big smile on Austin's face.

The cleat presentation took place in Austin's classroom at his Maine-Endwell school. That's a feel-good story if ever there was one. And speaking of feel-good stories, did you see what the New York Jets displayed at Met Life Stadium after the New York State High School Football championships had ended? To have three of the five class champions hailing from Section 4 is just amazing. Congratulations to Maine-Endwell, Chenango Forks, and Tioga. Section 4 is a powerful force in New York State football. And the Corning Hawks, who won the section 4 championship entered the AA class playoffs and made it through the first round.

I can only imagine other New York State section championship teams in fear of meeting up with a Section 4 team in the playoffs.
