We've become such a connected society that I can't imagine this happening in the States, but checking emails after work hours is so bad for you that Germany is actually considering passing a law that would ban it altogether.

The Labor Minister of Germany has been looking over the results of a study that examined the pressures of work life and as it turns out, the long hours and constant access to work aren’t good for your health.

Shocking, I know.

But here's what the Labor Minister wants to do: she wants Germany to follow in the footsteps of France, which has already banned work after 6 pm.

The law wouldn’t be put in place until 2016, but in the meantime, workers can use a self-control app to block access to work-related projects.

This is a winning situation for those who work normal hours, but how would it pan out for those of us who work unpredictable days and hours? I can't completely shut down from work after I've left the office for the day, but one of the first things I did when I accepted my job at the Hawk was to make it clear I wouldn't install my work email on my smartphone. It's not much, but it makes me feel like I have a little control of my "down time."
