When you go on vacation or a trip do you pack as light as possible, or do you shove and cram as much as you can into your suitcase?

There’s some new research that explains our packing habits when we’re getting ready to go on a trip. New York's next door neighbor, Pennsylvania is the champion of overpacking, while Minnesotans are more of the pack light kind of people. Where do New Yorkers fall? Let's unpack the findings. I know, I groaned too.

According to Upgraded Points, People from the Keystone State win the title of "packed with overpackers." For a seven-day trip, the average Pennsylvanian will bring almost everything they own. This includes 10 shirts or tops, seven pants or bottoms, three pieces of formal wear, three sets of pajamas, 11 pairs of underwear, nine pairs of socks, and four pairs of shoes...and a partridge in a pear tree.

Finishing close behind Pennsylvania in the overpacking stakes are Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, Louisiana, New York, and Alabama. So, it kind of looks like a good part of the Eastern United States prefers to pack it in as tight as they can..

On the other side, the state with the lightest packers is Minnesota. They like to  pack eight shirts, five pants, one piece of formal wear, two sets of pajamas, eight pairs of underwear, seven pairs of socks, and two pairs of shoes.

When you add it all up, the average American packs eight shirts, six pants, two pieces of formal wear, two sets of pajamas, nine pairs of underwear, seven pairs of socks, and three pairs of shoes. Whew, my back hurts just writing that.

So how much do you and your family pack before you go away on a trip or vacation?
