The letter, dated December 1, 2022 says "I wanted to share with you that I have formally notified the Board of Education today that I will be retiring on March 10,2023."

Gill has been with the district for 37 years.  He has worked as a C.V. math teacher for two decades, middle school principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent for the last 12 years.

In the letter addressed to Chenango Valley families, Gill said: "After 38 years in education and some recent health issues, it is time to work forward toward new adventures with my family." He goes on to say he was proud and grateful to have worked in the C.V. District for 37 years.  He says, "I was given the opportunity to teach my passion of mathematics for 20 years" before moving on to the various administrative positions, including 12 years as C.V.'s fifth Superintendent of Schools.

The next steps will be for the Board of Education to begin the search for a replacement.

The district, which encompasses parts of the Towns of Fenton, Chenango and Dickinson, recently became the center of media attention in May when dozens of students staged a walk-out at the High School in response to what the protestors claimed was a lack of administration response to allegations of sexual harassment at the school.  Many of the students had painted handprints on their clothing to represent where they said they had been inappropriately touched by other students.  The district hired law and communications firms and held public meetings to address the issues.

The district over the years has also weathered several discussions concerning a possible merger with the neighboring (rival) Chenango Forks School District.
