Do you get excited when Binghamton or the surrounding area gets mentioned in a part of a television series or a movie? Well, I do. And Binghamton certainly has been a part of several television shows and movies.

Some that I remember include an episode of NBC's 'The Office where the Binghamton branch of Dunder-Mifflin was closed. Movies include 1991's 'Liebestraum' starring Kim Novak and Bill Pullman, and 2014's 'The Rewrite' starring Hugh Grant and Marisa Tomei. Of course, there are more.

There are several people who have left the area, including Binghamton University alum who have gone on to careers in the entertainment industry, including Paul Reiser who starred in many television series and movies including 'Mad About You,' and most recently, the Netflix series 'Stranger Things.

Binghamton University Featured In HBO Max's 'Industry'

You may or may not be aware that HBO Max is airing a series called 'Industry' now in its second season, where Binghamton University is mentioned throughout the series. The Michigan Daily describes the show as a financial drama "set at the highly competitive Pierpoint & Co. in London and follows a group of college graduates vying for a permanent position at the firm.

One of the main characters is Harper, played by Myha’la Herrold,  who appeared recently in an episode of Amazon Prime Video's 'Modern Love' television series. The Michigan Daily describes the character as "a SUNY Binghamton grad who may not have the transcript to back that claim up."

HBO describes Myha'la Herrold's character this way - "Harper has come to London from New York to join the world’s most prestigious bank. Surrounded by people born into privilege, she will stop at nothing to prove herself the best hire in her graduate class."

The series debuted in November 2020 and was renewed for a second season that aired beginning in August 2022. The Atlantic describes the series as the most thrilling show on television. I haven't seen the show but will check it out just because Binghamton is mentioned, and who knows, maybe I'll get hooked along the way.
