Is Facebook About to Launch a Phone?

If you’re a Facebook junkie like I am, this could be pretty exciting news. Rumors are growing that Facebook might be getting ready to unveil a mobile phone to take on the iPhone.  The reason the rumors are growing is because Facebook has sent out invites to journalists in the United States for a special event at their usually secretive Silicon Valley HQ.

The invites promise to allow attendees to “see what we're building” - with online rumors pointing to a phone.  The firm has been rumored several times to be developing its own phone.

Facebook’s apps for existing phones have already been expanded to include many features found in other handsets like messaging and photo sharing through the recent purchase of Instagram.

Recent reports go so far as to claim Facebook stole away engineers from Apple's iPhone and iPad team to work on the project, which is believed to be being built by HTC.

Time will tell.
