As many people know, I've been a basketball official for over 20 years in the Southern Tier. I've found it to be rewarding in so many ways.

I've made wonderful friends, people that I probably wouldn't have meet if it weren't for basketball. It's a great way to interact with the kids in our area.

I get a work out and the extra money is nice. I will tell you this though, if you just do it for the money then you'll burn out and miss out on a great experience.

I've encouraged others to get into officiating even if it isn't basketball. Here's a way that you can get involved. It's high school soccer! They are in need and you can help.

The Triple Cities Soccer Officials meet every Monday, 6:30 PM at Union Endicott High School. If you missed last Monday, it's still not too late.

It'll be in the “large lecture hall” (enter on the Washington Avenue side of the high school.)  All the meetings will begin at 6:30. Rule books will be available at the meeting as well.

They service all the high schools in the area. If you are interested in becoming a high school soccer official and need additional info, contact Kevin McGoff at Kmcgoff@stny.rr.com.

I know that I enjoy my time as an official and it's given me a lifetime of memories and wonderful stories. I don't think you'll regret it either.
