With all the chaos that surrounds us, it's great to be able to pay tribute to some real heroes? The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) is putting together the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend on May 4th-5th and several firefighters from New York will be recognized.

Remembering the Fallen

This event will be honoring 89 firefighters who passed away in 2023, along with 137 others who lost their lives in previous years. This includes firefighters from New York, like Thomas Anderson Jr., Jason Arno, and Peter Dromms.

Thomas Anderson Jr., part of the Fire Department City of New York, suffered an illness related to the 9/11 attacks. Jason Arno lost his life battling a fire, and Peter Dromms passed away from complications after a heart attack.

A Solemn Occasion

The memorial weekend is open to everyone and will be held at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Park in Emmitsburg, Maryland. There will be events, including a Candlelight Service on May 4th and a Memorial Service on May 5th, and both will be livestreamed.

Ways to Remember

From May 1st-5th, you can join in by lighting up your place with red lights for the Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters event. You can also participate in other activities like Bells Across America, Sound the Sirens, and signing a virtual Remembrance Banner.

A Time for Reflection

That weekend is a way for the nation to remember the sacrifices and bravery for those that run in while others run away. It's a chance for us to honor their dedication and the legacy they've left behind. These are the true heroes that paid the ultimate price and put their lives on the line for the safety of our communities.
