Dallas Police Shooting-Birdsall’s Comments

Snipers shot and killed five police officers last night in Dallas.  It was a protest against police shootings.  It started out as a peaceful march about two recent police shootings where black men were killed by white cops. Philando Castile was shot and killed in his car in Minnesota on Wednesday.  And Alton Sterling was shot in a parking lot in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Tuesday.  Both were on video.

But when over 20 shots rang out at the rally in Dallas yesterday, it was obvious someone was shooting at the police.  Two of the shooters were using rifles from elevated positions.  So it was a planned, heavily armed sniper attack.

I get it that anger over two people being shot for what looks like no reason is inevitable. I have seen the video and agree that a heavy trigger finger or an overly nervous person should not be controlling a firearm in a law enforcement situation. However when you listen to the officers voice on that video you can clearly hear him about to cry for pulling that trigger 4 times. We can only hope in remorse for what he knew was going to taking the life of a law abiding citizen and no other reason.

Now, I say this to the snipers. Why take the lives of more people? Why kill human beings that have families and children to raise? Those cops in Dallas had nothing to do with the Baton Rouge or Minnesota shootings. Why kill more freaking people?? Why should Dallas police pay with their lives for the mistakes of officers in another state?

WAIT A MINUTE!! Why kill anyone at all.

Pain, loss and heartbreak was caused by two officers of the law. Let alone the circumstances or the reasons anyone believes those unfortunate incidents happened. Why kill anyone else? Those officers will have to live with the knowledge that they ended another human life without cause for the rest of theirs. They will go through hell. Investigations, court cases, stress on family life and jail time. They will go through complete life destruction and pay for the things they've done dearly. We don't need to run around screaming "AN EYE FOR AN EYE!! MATEY!" What are we pirates?

I believe I remember reading a pretty great book over and over... The Bible. Sound familiar? You idiots with guns should refer to Matthew 5:38 when you feel your vengeance coming on -- "Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."  (translation: You have heard people say, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth: but I'm telling you, resist that kind of evil. If a person smacks you on the left, turn right... and walk the other way.)

You're hands are NOT the fists of God.

Love is our strongest weapon against evil. Love, is how we end the violence and turn the volume down on suffering. Get with the freaking program.

Do us a favor and tonight before you go to bed pray for EVERYONE who lost lives, the families destroyed and pain they are going through. Send positive energy their way please. They need it so badly right now.
