World Health Organization declares a pandemic
WHO had a meeting with eight countries including the U.S. They talked about how the number of COVID-19 cases was on the rise around the world. They ended up declaring a pandemic and the Dow Jones would drop by more than 1,400 points.
The following day, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo put big restrictions on nursing homes, and the next week he would close bars, restaurants, gyms, and theaters. For many of these establishments, they will never open their doors again.
President Trump addresses the nation
Later that day, President Trump addresses the nation from the Oval Office and explains the coronavirus outbreak. He would suspend travel to Europe (except the United Kingdom) for 30 days.
He would call for emergency action to help hourly workers and provide financial aid. He also asked Congress to pass payroll tax relief legislation.

I remember that the biggest concern that I had on that day was if Syracuse could knock off North Carolina in the first round of the ACC tournament. The Orange needed the win if they had any chance of making it into the NCAA tournament.
They dominated the Tar Heels on their way to the victory and as it turned out, it would be the last game of the ACC tournament. In the days to follow, we learned there would be no March Madness but the beginning of a different kind of madness.
March 11th, 2020 was day one of the "new normal." What do you remember about that day?
