Over the next few days, the weather is going to be so cold that as soon as you step outside, you'll be saying, “Why does my face hurt already?”  A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday, and wind chills could feel like 15 to 25 below zero. That’s cold enough for frostbite in about 30 minutes, which is not something anyone wants to mess with.

If you can, the best plan is to stay inside, bundle up if you do have to go out, keep pets indoors, and check on older family members and neighbors. But if you or someone you know needs a warm place to go, Broome County has warming centers and overnight emergency shelters available. Hours can vary by location, so it’s a good idea to call ahead if you can.
