Is Your Cat’s Food Safe? Important Recall for New York Residents
If you live in New York and have a cat, there’s an important recall alert about a popular food. Officials have found that some batches may be missing a key nutrient cats need to thrive: Vitamin B1, also known as thiamine.
Which Products Are Affected?
The company that issued the recall is based in Utah, and the affected product is sold under the Quest brand. Specifically, the recall involves Quest Cat Food Chicken Recipe Frozen Diet products. The action was expanded after the company discovered more products that could be impacted by low thiamine levels.
Look for beige, resealable two-pound bags with a purple stripe in your freezer. Check the front of the bag for the lot code and best-by date. If you see MCD25350 (best by 6/16/2027) or MCC25321 (best by 5/17/2027), stop feeding it to your cat immediately.

Understanding the Role of Thiamine
This nutrient is essential for your cat’s health. Without enough thiamine, cats can quickly develop a deficiency that may lead to serious complications.
Early signs of trouble include loss of appetite, vomiting, drooling, and slowed growth in younger cats. If left unchecked, more severe symptoms like a bent neck, difficulty walking, confusion, or seizures can occur.
Steps to Take if You’re Affected
If your product matches an affected lot code, stop using it right away. You can return it to the store for a full refund or replacement. Stores should have new, reformulated products that meet all nutrition standards by the middle of March.
If your cat has eaten the recalled food and is showing any symptoms, contact your veterinarian right away.

How the Manufacturer Is Responding
The manufacturer is coordinating with New York retailers to ensure all affected bags are quickly removed from shelves. Any remaining inventory is being replaced with newly updated products that meet all nutrition standards.
For further details or questions, you can contact the company by phone at 801-432-7478 (Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. MST time).
