Binghamton, Chow & Churches Partner for Upgraded Food Programs

The City of Binghamton and the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) are working with a number of area churches to support meal programs in the region.

The new partnership with Binghamton’s Black Churches comes as several faith leaders in June expressed a need for funding to support their churches’ community meal programs.

Under the effort, $100,000 is going to the programs in $55,00 allocations from the Community Development Block Grant funds to be used to support capital upgrades to the community kitchen facilities at House of Worship on Riverside Drive, Greater Faith and Deliverance Ministries on Oak Street, Mount Sinai Church of God in Christ on South Washington Street, River of Life Ministries on Frederick Street, and Salvation Temple Church on Main Street.

Some of those upgrades include new stoves, refrigerators and electrical upgrades.

The City is also allocating $25,000 in federal CARES Act funding for expanding church community meal programs
