Girl Scout Troop 60285, comprised of dedicated junior Girl Scouts, has set sights on tackling an issue that has plagued the Southern Tier community: food insecurity. Intending to earn their bronze award, these young ladies have embarked on a mission to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors.

Recognizing the pressing need for accessible food and essential items in their community, Girl Scout Troop 60285 addresses this concern as the focus of their bronze award project. The troop has diligently placed collection boxes around Whitney Point to gather non-perishable food items for the local food bank. In addition, they have also been gathering essential items to support the clothing closets at both St. Patrick's Church and the Whitney Point Baptist Church.

On Sunday, January 21, Girl Scout Troop 60285 will culminate their non-perishable food and essential items collection with a special drive-up event. From 12 pm to 2 pm, community members are encouraged to visit the Whitney Point Baptist Church to drop off their donations. The troop's ultimate goal is to fill up a truck with supplies, allowing them to assist the Whitney Point food bank to replenish its shelves and ensure that the local community has access to essential items through the clothing closets.
