Last year, they had to make it a drive-thru event because of the pandemic but it returned in a big way on Saturday, April 2nd. I'm talking about the CNY Maple Festival in Marathon New York.

It unofficially began on Friday night, April 1st with the CNY Maple Festival Queen pageant, and our very own Traci Taylor was asked to be one of the judges. Congratulations to Lilly and the rest of the contestants.

I want to thank the CNY Maple Festival for inviting me to Marathon for its 50th-anniversary celebration. On Saturday, April 2nd, I made my return to the pancake eating contest, and this year, I was eating flapjacks to help the Women's Hope Home in Johnson City.

The Hope Foundation is refurbishing the facility and anyone can sponsor a room for only $1,500. I've been asked about the Women's Hope Home and its mission. Here I am explaining it at the pancake eating contest.

Women's Hope Home In Johnson City

I'm hoping to raise enough money to sponsor a room and with your help, I'll think we can do it together. The object of the pancake eating contest is to get pledges per pancake eaten or a flat donation.

The Maple Festival will also kick in $2 for every pancake eaten as well. I've said many times that I eat like I'm on a timer and in this case, I really am. In fact, the more we eat, the more money that is raised.

So here are the "highlights" of my foray into the competitive pancake-eating world.

I want to say congratulations to Dan Cross from Marathon for winning the contest this year. He ate 18 pancakes in 15 minutes to raise money for the MCS girl's field hockey team. Not bad for a man that doesn't like pancakes much. I'm guessing he took his anger out on the flapjacks.

I ate 10 pancakes and raised nearly 500 dollars for the Woman's Hope Home in Johnson City. If you would like to help me in my quest to sponsor a room at the Woman's Hope Home, you can Venmo at @WomensHopeHome and write "pancake eating contest" in the box.

Thank you to everyone that attended the contest and donated to this great cause. You are making an eternal difference in the lives of women that are in crisis in our area.
